Hi guys, for those who don’t know about me. I’m Hoang as known as MankaiStep or KeoDeoVN in Minecraft Community. Currently, I’m not working at any position in Minecraft Server (MS) development, but I used to be administrator of several servers such as Minevn.net (Sorasky), Mine108.com (EternalRPG), AEMine.vn (MineLord),…

Okay, making a Minecraft Server is a simple thing, anyone could do it but “how to create an interesting server for players?” is the question anybody should ask.

Today, I’m gonna talk about SoraSky and how I made it from scratch.

1. Make a plan for your server

A plan is really important. If you’re about to create a MS, I suggest you should have your own drive folder to write documents so that you could easily follow the idea. There’re various things you could include in your plan but here are three points that are crucial for your server:

  • Gameplay
  • Coreloop
  • Newbie gameplay
Drive folder of Sorasky (docs written by me only)

Firstly, let’s talk about Gameplay. It’s the first thing you – an administrator of your server have to deal with. In the part of gameplay, you must answer some kinds of questions such as “How would player play my game?“, “Is there anything interesting and different compared to other servers?“, “Would players love this server?“,… To sum up, in the gameplay section, you’re about to clear the idea of how players would play the game.

Here are some sorts of things that I wrote about Gameplay. Not so excellent but if you’re a novice, you can take these as preference.

Secondly, the Coreloop. Basically, coreloop is a certain amount of things that players should do every day, week, or month. For instance, players in your game will always take the daily quests to get the reward, so that they can use the money to buy stuff such as weapons, armors,… Because we’re just starting building the game flow, the idea can be simple and we can expand them in the future. Here’s an example in SoraSky

Just basic like this

Final fundamental key – Newbie gameplay. It means how a newbie – a new player should play your game. As you know, developers can’t customize everything in Minecraft servers, the ability is limited. In addition, the first impression is crucial. If you can’t make them understand and enjoy the game no matter how great your server is, the first time a player joins your server will also be the last time.

In Sorasky’s example, I only listed the tutorial. It would be better if there were more points such as “What players do after having the tutorial finished?“, “Is the current difficulty appropriate for beginners?“,…

Simple

When writing about the gameplay, it’s better for you to brainstorm some sort of idea of related features. For example, I wanted Sorasky to be an MMORPG game so listing key RPG features is necessary. Remember, just write the very basic things because we’re just brainstorming the idea.

And about Crates and Dungeons, I also noted some key points the features needed. Another important point, there is no shame in borrowing the ideas of famous games in the market. You have rights to do and you should do. Take Sorasky for instance, I built the Crate feature according to Wish in Genshin Impact. After launching the server, the responses of players were really positive about the feature. It’s much better than normal things in other servers and public plugins on Spigot.

Now with the basic plan, you have the idea of how the server should work. Don’t write so specifically about the features, just overall ideas. Okay, let’s move on to the next section.

2. Build the resources
